/surveys.
When to use it
- Pre-bid walkthroughs for cabling, access control, fire alarm, CCTV, network, A/V, or electrical work.
- Capture data hands-busy on an iPad — dictate items and snap photos instead of typing.
- Document existing equipment condition to scope replacements.
- Turn field findings directly into a bid without re-keying.
Walkthrough mode
A dedicated large-touch-target page per survey (/surveys/{id}/walkthrough)
shows areas, trade checklists, and capture controls — built for a tablet in the
field.
Capture
- GPS-tagged photos — the browser supplies coordinates with each upload; photos group by area and floor with auto-generated thumbnails.
- Voice notes — speak while you walk; the browser transcribes, then Claude extracts structured survey items and area attributes (ceiling type, height, square footage) and auto-checks matching checklist items.
- AI equipment detection — Claude Vision reads each photo for equipment (manufacturer, model, serial from nameplates), a photo-quality score, code violations (NEC, NFPA 72, TIA-568, UL 294), and label text.
Convert to a bid
A completed survey generates a draft bid: each area becomes a bid section and each item needing work becomes a line item (equipment already in good condition is skipped). Conversion pulls quantities and descriptions, not pricing.Good to know
- Voice capture is transcript-only — no audio file is stored, and it relies on the browser’s speech recognition (Chrome/Safari), so unsupported browsers won’t capture.
- GPS coordinates come from the device and are stored as-is (no server-side validation).
- AI detection is on-demand (you trigger it, and it runs in the background) and needs your tenant’s Claude API key.
- Conversion to a bid requires the survey to be marked completed.
